Who is Amanda Monger?
The short version
I spent thirteen years working in live music, on the road, and I came out of it with $74,000 of debt: credit cards, a car loan and student loans. I could not afford to live anywhere but government housing. I spent two years Googling my way to nowhere, then got obsessive: tested every payoff method, tracked every dollar, and got out in three years.
What I actually did, in order
- Listed every debt with its balance, rate and minimum, in one place.
- Paid off my smallest student loan first, about $1,000, in one night. That first zero is what made the rest feel possible.
- Moved every credit card balance to 0% balance transfer cards and kept rotating them until the cards were gone, paying minimums on everything else.
- Paid the remaining low-interest student loans last.
What I make now
- The Debt Free Guide, $14.99: the order, the Small Wins method, the 0% rotation, the mistakes, and the free debt tracker.
- The Debt Monger on Instagram (@thedebtmonger) and my main page @amandamonger, where I talk about money, sleep and travel.
- Printables for money and the holidays in the AmandaMongerShop on Etsy.
What I am not
I am not a licensed financial advisor, and nothing on this site is financial advice. It is the plan that worked for me, written in plain English, and it works because of the order, not because of anything fancy.
